Daniel Strauss is a reporter for Talking Points Memo. He was previously a breaking news reporter for The Hill newspaper and has written for Politico, Roll Call, The American Prospect, and Gaper's Block. He has also interned at Democracy: A Journal of Ideas and The New Yorker. Daniel grew up in Chicago and graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in History. State Rep. Joe Carr's (R-TN) newly announced primary campaign against Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN) misspelled the word "Senate" in the campaign's banner image.

Carr's campaign featured an image of him with "Carr for US Sentate" on Tuesday, the day he announced his primary challenge against Alexander. Carr's campaign eventually recognized the misspelling and fixed the image.  

Carr announced his candidacy on a local radio station Tuesday morning. Soon afterward Chip Saltzman, a campaign aide for Carr, said he would step down and join Alexander's reelection camapign instead.

State Rep. Joe Carr (R-TN) announced his candidacy for Sen. Lamar Alexander's (R-TN) seat Tuesday morning.

Carr, who is 55 years old and in his third term in the state House, made the announcement during an interview with Ralph Bristol on Tennessee radio station 99.7 WTN.

"Lamar is popular but there is a disconnect with his popularity to the way he has voted," Carr said. "And we thought it was rather interesting —more than interesting—that 70 percent of the voters across Tennessee don't appreciate the fact that he votes with President Obama 62 percent of the time."

Alexander, a former Tennessee governor and U.S. secretary of education, is seeking a third term in the Senate.
