Nikki Haley, who resigned as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations on Tuesday, called it an “honor of a lifetime” and a “blessing” to serve in the UN and as governor of South Carolina.

want to thank the President for just, you know, allowing us to come out and talk to you this way. It has been an honor of a lifetime,” she told reporters gathered in the Oval Office on Tuesday morning. “You know, I said I am such a lucky girl to have been able to lead the state that raised me and to serve a country I love so very much. It has really been a blessing and I want to thank you for that.”

Haley then went on to list perceived accomplishments during her time at the United Nations, like slashing the amount of money the U.S. contributes to the UN budget and the North Korean sanctions she led to passage. President Trump told reporters that Haley told him months ago that she thought she might soon need a break.

She plans to leave her post at the end of the year.
