House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-SC) said on Thursday that President Donald Trump’s attempted obstruction in the Russia probe and his administration’s stonewalling of Democrats’ inquiries is “bigger than Watergate.”

Clyburn told MSNBC’s Craig Melvin that the White House’s refusal to comply with Democrats’ inquiries into Trump’s tax returns and Trump’s attempts to meddle with special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia probe amounted to a “crisis situation.”

“Anytime you have such divisions between the branches of government, as we have between the executive and the legislative, and looking for the judiciary to step in and moderate or navigate—help us navigate through this, that’s a crisis situation,” the majority whip said. “It may not be as big as a lot of the crises that we’ve had as a nation, but this is bigger than Watergate was.”
