Once a member of New York City’s most elite social circles, White House senior adviser Jared Kushner has taken on a new role within the Trump administration: convincing members of the GOP’s wealthy elite that they should support President Trump’s efforts with their pocketbooks, Politico reported.

Since August, Kushner has reportedly attended at least four different donor gatherings and has plans to attend more, people close to Kushner told Politico. At a gathering with the American Opportunity Alliance in a Manhattan hotel earlier this month, Kushner took on a tone of damage control and spent most of his time convincing wealthy Republicans in attendance that Trump is surrounded by serious people who are working to produce successes for the administration.

Reports of Kushner’s efforts come in contrast with Trump’s own demeanor throughout the 2016 campaign. He repeatedly sought to disassociate himself with the GOP’s wealthiest donors and attacked his primary opponents for taking their cash. Many of those Republican elite have been critical of Trump, too. Paul Singer, the billionaire hedge fund manager who actively campaign against Trump in 2016 by funding attack ads and backing Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), was in attendance at the Manhattan gathering earlier this month.

According to Politico, several of the donors had doubts about the Trump administration as they entered the meeting with Kushner and left feeling reassured.
