In a flurry of tweets Thursday morning, President Trump not only suggested that he didn’t need ex-White House counsel Don McGahn to do his dirty work for him, but also signaled that he hasn’t read special counsel Robert Mueller’s report.

Trump blamed the media for “incorrectly” reporting he directed McGahn to fire Mueller, a series of actions that are laid out in extensive detail in Mueller’s report. Trump went on to defend his “legal right” to fire Mueller and said he could’ve done it without McGahn if he really wanted to.

“Nevertheless, Mueller was NOT fired and was respectfully allowed to finish his work on what I, and many others, say was an illegal investigation,” he said, despite his near-constant attacks on the probe he coined a “witch hunt.”

Trump hasn’t let up on his Twitter assaults since Mueller’s report was released last week. When the report came out he immediately changed his tune, stepping away from the “total exoneration” narrative he propelled when the attorney general released his summary of the report and diving head-first into “crazy Mueller report” talking points.
