Two men told staffers for Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) this week that they believe they are the ones who had the “encounter” with Christine Blasey Ford in the summer of 1982, not Brett Kavanaugh, according to a timeline of Grassley’s staff’s handling of the allegations released Wednesday night.
On Monday, committee staff interviewed the first man and they spoke with him again on Tuesday. He described his “recollection of their interaction in some detail,” according to the timeline. On Wednesday, the first man submitted a “more in-depth written statement” about the incident and committee staff also interviewed, via phone, a second man “who believes he, not Judge Kavanuagh, had the encounter with Dr. Ford in 1982 that is the basis of her allegation.”
Blasey Ford has accused Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her at a party while they were in high school in the summer of 1982. Both Blasey Ford and Kavanaugh are set to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday about Blasey Ford’s allegation. She alleges that Kavanaugh pinned her down on a bed, covered her mouth with his hand and tried to remove her clothes.
