Warren: ‘Get Rid Of The Electoral College’

March 19, 2019 10:08 a.m.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) listed her voting rights priorities to raucous applause at Monday’s CNN town hall, hitting a crescendo with her call to “get rid of the electoral college.”

“I believe we need a constitutional amendment that protects the right to vote for every American citizen and to make sure that every vote gets counted. We need to get some federal muscle behind that and we need to repeal every one of those voter suppression laws out there right now,” she said. “And I’ll tell you one more: We need to make sure that every vote counts.”

“I want to push that right here in Mississippi because I think this is an important point. Come a general election, presidential candidates don’t come to places like Mississippi and they also don’t come to places like California and Massachusetts — we’re not the battleground states,” she continued. “My view is, every vote matters and the way we can make that happen is that we can have national voting — and that means getting rid of the electoral college.”
