The White House officially announced President Trump would veto a resolution currently working its way through Congress that would terminate the emergency declaration the President made to secure funding for his border wall.

In a statement on Tuesday, the administration said it “strongly opposes” the resolution and reiterated its ongoing stance that there is a “humanitarian and security crisis” at the border that “threatens core national security interests and constitutes a national emergency.”

“If (the resolution) were presented to the President in its current form, his advisors would recommend that he veto it,” the statement said.

The House is set to vote on the measure on Tuesday evening, which will easily pass the Democrat-controlled chamber. Once the resolution reaches the Senate, it could eke out a win as well. At least three Republicans have publicly stated they would vote in favor of the resolution, meaning one more Republican Party deflection could send the measure to Trump’s desk. At least a dozen other Republican senators have voiced a level of concern over Trump’s emergency declaration and the precedent it sets for future presidents.
