This Week: Trump Org’s Mysterious Check For Foreign Profits Grows $40k

The District of Columbia this week reportedly joined New Jersey in subpoenaing the Trump Inaugural Committee. Federal prosecutors in the Southern District of New York did the same earlier this month. Investigators in Washington, D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine’s office reportedly said in the subpoena that they were seeking information regarding whether inaugural funds “were wasted, mismanaged and/or improperly provided private benefit, causing the committee to exceed or abuse its authority or act contrary to its nonprofit purpose.” In addition, per the Times, the subpoena requests information and documents on payments the committee made to Trump’s businesses, and records regarding “the pricing of venue rentals.” Trump’s committee spent double what former President Obama’s did on his first inauguration; the bill included $1.5 million-plus tab at the Trump International Hotel.
